Re: The Screening Room
I've posted a video to YouTube demonstrating how I cut the side draft in my boots. This particular task is one in a series of steps and it's not interchangeable with all methods of making boots. So...that's the disclaimer.

Well, I'm not having any luck creating a link that works so I'll just post the address to it.

Sorry Lisa. Arts correct, it works as advertised!
Once again I prove my computer savy. And now even DW can see it's not just his CD I have troubles with.
LOL at myself.

Re: The Screening Room
I keep seeing a reference to a DW video or two back in 2007, but cannot seem to find. Have they been deleted? Would love to see.

Re: The Screening Room
I finally learned how to reduce my 30 minute presentation on crimping high vamp boots to YouTube-friendly bits. So...here's a link to Part 1 of the presentation I gave at the HCC Annual General meeting in Oregon last October. If you follow this link to YouTube you'll be able to view Parts 2, 3 and 4 also.

Thanks Jake! Fortunately my migraines never last long so that one's long gone.

Lisa, those videos are great. Thanks for sharing! It is amazing how much work goes into making a pair of boots.

Re: The Screening Room
The Delos video is inspiring, if it wasn't getting to be midnight I'd get back to work. I was just about to post it myself, instead I'll watch the Corthay. Thanks for the link Janne.

Fantastic!
Why does Delos scribe 3 parallel lines on the insole (around 1:30 in the video)?
Makes me happy to see I'm not the only one who marks leather with a ball-point pen.

Re: The Screening Room
After closer inspection; it looks like the rear line is for marking the beginning of heel-seat (?). Still unclear about the two forward lines, unless it's to mark the instep feather.

Re: The Screening Room
Nat:
I believe he is marking the 'waist' (halfway between the heel seat and the inside joint) and the inside joint. This helps when drawing the insole shape in the waist area, and the joint mark helps when installing the shank.

Re: The Screening Room
OK> That makes sense. I've been just eyeballing insole shape in the waist, but it would be nice to have a more thoughtful/planned approach.
I didn't notice two insoles. Maybe an orthodic.
A couple useful tricks I took note of:
-Using broken glass to clean up the insole channel.
-Piercing the insole at the seat, then continuing to sew the seat with the same inseam thread. I also noticed he wasn't using an especially curved awl to pierce the seat sewing holes... Looked like a regular inseaming awl??
-Unique clamp device used to hold the waist tight while lasting.
