Nick,

Most of us are kind of waiting on a "Christmas surprise" from one of the best in the business.

But if you want an answer immediately, try Jones and Vining in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. The phone number, I believe, is (870) 886-6621 [I've had that number wrong in at least one of my cardfiles, so hopefully if it's wrong someone will correct me] I've gotten all my lasts, for the past several years, from them.

Nick,
I will echo DW on Jones and Vining, if you have a model you consider "modern" - you can get it digitized and graded from there. I've never asked for a last from their archive, so I don't know how that works. J&V also have an 800 #: (800) 341-2266.

There is another option - I don't know what area you are in. One of my students was able to go to New York City, where there is a Shoe repair supplier called Kaufmans (sp?), they have what I think are leftovers from a Korean manufacturer. My student brought in the lasts that she purchased, and they were very nice looking. They are hinged and plated already, and I do not know if you can get size runs. The catch - and this is why I mentioned your location - you have to go there to see them- as far as I understand what my student told me.

Hope this helps,
Erick

Erick:

I am 20 minutes from New York, and actually work in the Fashion District (in men's outer wear), and have ordered some findings from Kaufman's.

Last I checked a few months back, they didn't have anything left.

Who is the best in the business that you speak of? Has anyone gotten anything from the source in Sweden or Hormas de Arbol in Mexico?

Nick,

Let's put out an all points for Larry Waller to reply here: Earth to Larry... earth to Larry... come in Larry.

Don't know why your e-mail to him didn't go through. I was just up there in Oct., and bought a run of men's lasts from him--old factory stuff, mostly plastic, hinged, lasts. He literally has containers full of them stacked 15 feet high, including women's, and on his website he shows several styles he has runs of for sale.

DW was referring to Bill Tippit, of course Image

Dick Anderson might be another source for second-hand factory runs of lasts. He posts here every once in a while. Do a search for his posts--most have been about the tools he makes. The name of his business is Thornapple River Boots.

If you tell us more about the exact types, styles, heel-heights, etc. of the women's lasts you want, it might help us figure who's got what to better help you out.

Thanks for posting your website info for Nick.

Hey Dude!

Glad to hear you're still with us! We ALL take it for granted, but Life is so fragile. In a blink of an eye, ALL can be lost. Once again....Thank God for his protecting hand in this situation. About three years ago, I had a similar escape from death. But I have to admit, mine was self-inflicted. Thank God the Man upstairs didn't want me. Merry Christmas!

By the way, did you ever find those lasts? I believe they were the 700 series.

First and foremost, my best wishes to Larry for a speedy recovery. What a way to end the year. 2005's gotta be looking pretty good to you!

With all of the holiday rushing around I've cut it kind of close on my announcement and most of you probably won't see this until after Christmas anyway but I wanted to have a little fun with it so here goes....

THE “LAST” CHRISTMAS STORY

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the shop,
the search for the right last just never seemed to stop.
Should I take the size 6 and try to make it an 11
or just get down on my knees and look up to heaven?

I’ve no time for buildups. I’m burning both ends of the candle.
I can’t make this guy’s boots from a last made for a sandle.
There must be some place where I can get a last made
That’s right for this foot, so that’s what I prayed.

When out in cyberspace, there arose such a noise
I went to the forum and said “what’s up boys”?
I was told of a promise of a Christmas surprise.
Maybe a new last source, with really good buys.

A supplier from the past is back in the game.
I’m sure you can guess that Tippit’s his name.
There will be lots of styles; some old...some new.
Got one of your own? He’ll digitize it for you.

Know the size you want? Just tell him which one.
Or he’ll scale the last to the fitting you’ve done.
You’ll get the right heel height and the right style too.
Not a steel toed boot last for a high fashion shoe.

So when the holidays are all over, there’ll be a new choice.
On the other end of the phone, a familiar voice.
For more information just email or call.
But for now, just this....MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!

OK, I've written better but this was really crammed into a short time so I'd appreciate some slack. Seriously, I will be starting a new business on January 3rd and hope to have my web site completed and published by then. I'll post a link once I'm online. Meanwhile, if anyone has any questions, send me an email and I'll let you know the particulars and give you the other contact info. And the name of the company will not be The Last Word. I want to publish the website before I give the name though as I won't be buying the domain names until next week and I don't want to have to buy them from someone who just registers domain names to hold them hostage.

Best wishes to all for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Prosperous, and Healthy New Year!

More power to y'awl.

Thanks to those who welcomed me back online as well as those who have emailed me. I'm kind of taking advantage of this "tweener" week and just kicking back before I actually have to start working for a living again on January 3rd. I look forward to working with all of my former customers again and hopefully many new ones as well.

Meanwhile, everyone have a safe and Happy New Year and get off the streets before the amatuers leave the parties Friday night. January 1 will be the 3rd wedding anniversary for me and my lovely wife so as you can see, I tend to try to start good things around the beginning of the year.

To all:

Please note my new email address (bill.tippit@globalfootwearsolutions.com) which has been added to my profile on the forum. It's a mouthfull but at least you'll only have to type it once and not even once if you take advantage of this posting. The website currently shows an "under construction" sign but it should be up and running any day now. Meanwhile, I am open for business so if you didn't get the last you wanted for Christmas....well, I won't "give" it to you either but I'd be happy to sell you one.

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

To all:

I got tired of getting distracted by other startup duties so after a grueling 36 hour day (yes, I didn't go to bed last night) I finally finished the website amd it is now online (www.globalfootwearsolutions.com). I've already noticed a typo or two and two images and one video link failed to upload but I'll take care of that over the weekend. I'll also be getting the online catalog put together but that will probably always be a work in progress as I'll be adding new styles frequently. Thanks for being so patient and now....to all a good night.
