Re: Tools and equipment for sale
Not my machine (Don't live in that area anymore either) - just happened to stumble on the ad.
Landis #12- looks to be in good shape, but I know NOTHING about them.
http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/art/3049004276.html
I am going to have to rule against the posting of a price--too many unknowns, could be profit involved, appearances must be maintained.

Re: Tools and equipment for sale
I have sold tools to few of you in the past and have filled out my "want-list" orders. Today I added a dedicated page on my website of boot and shoe making tools. Here is the link to the landing page of the tools - http://brucejohnsonleather.com/content/index.php/leather_tools_for_sale/shoe-and -boot-making-tools-for-sale/ . Thank you, Bruce

Courtney,
It is a good buy considering free shipping as it said,They are new pattern in comparison to the old pincers of no hammer side,in my view they are progression from the no hammer pincers of old days, I have two pincers of no hammer side and I still use them with other pincers,It is a matter of getting used to and finding the proper use of them.

Re: Tools and equipment for sale
Courtney,
I have a catalogue I can email you - or anyone - from a German company called Schein/Sheintechnics. They have about 6 kinds of lasting pliers, some similar to the ones you're looking at.
You can also download their catalog yourself:
http://www.schein.de/
There has been a bit of discussion on these here... just did a quick search and here's Lance with a most recent:
http://www.thehcc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=37719#p37719
and here's robert with some pics from 2006:
http://www.thehcc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=17508#p17508
Some like these a lot and find them as good as the old Sweedish Bergs.
UCO in Chicago can get you one, and it's around the same price as the Osborne, but now you have a choice. I can dig up their contact if you like so email me.
Good luck
Edie

Re: Tools and equipment for sale
The easiest way to correct a mistake is simply to edit the post and delete the photo. Then re-post with a photo the correct size.
If Admin has to rectify the problem he is going to be tempted to simply delete the photo...esp. if the OP is a long-time and seasoned member.
The reason for this is that in order to correct the post, Admin has to download the photo, open the photo in a photo editor, resize it, then locate and replace the original with the newly sized photo. It's a hassle and Admin ends up with a lot of oversized, unwanted photos on his hard disk.
But if you edit your post and delete the original, it is a simple matter to delete the now empty post.
Please take note...

I bought a pair of these Osborne "Swedish" pattern lasting pincers. They came today. They are 1/2 inch width jaws, not the really narrow 1/4 inch models coveted for "around" toes and women's shoes. FYI.

Hi Georgene,
You might be happier with the 200mm Schein pliers.

Re: Tools and equipment for sale
I was just contacted by a man who has two...I'm not sure what they'd be called. It's a three-in-one without the skiving part. Would that be a two-in-one or a one-in-one? Anyway, I'd love to make sure they don't get used as scrap metal but I'd like an opinion on whether or not anyone will be interested in one of these tools that ONLY has the cutting blade. This question isn't for the purpose of reselling them right now, it's to ask if these are something anyone thinks I'll be able to resell.

Re: Tools and equipment for sale
My two cents:
The hardest thing for beginning shoemakers is to cut soling. For that alone, you should be able to resell any you purchase, providing the blades are sharp or can be replaced. Not everyone makes welted footwear and skiving can be done by hand. I have a second, deep throated model that only cuts, no other tricks.

Lisa,
I agree with Georgene. You wouldn't wait long for a sale if you put one up.
I just traded a short armed one to Spider. A customer turned me onto it from a salvage buy he made.

Lisa,
Just to add a third to the motion. I don't seek them outand have never had a waiting list for one, but I haven't had a big problem selling them either. Another market for these are horseshoers. They use them to cut pads.

Re: Tools and equipment for sale
Lisa,
If the price was right, I'd get one. Just like Georgene says, I'm a beginner, don't have a 5/3 in 1, but since these are hard to find, I would get a cutter model just to help with the thick leather, which till now I've been doing by hand.

These machines are great for cutting up sheets of soling rubber , heavy sidesor bends of leather they will do the same job that you will get from the 5in one just not the welt rolling or skiving .A very useful bench machine for your shop ,saves the wear and tare on your hands cutting those types of materials.
Hope that helps .

Re: Tools and equipment for sale
I was accidentally sent a quart bottle of Sellaris non heating stitching wax instead of the brick of wax. Rather than shipping it back, or having it sit on a shelf forever, I would be happy to sell it to someone, if you're interested please send a PM.

Re: Tools and equipment for sale
I just got a bottle of it myself a month or so ago Jon, but it reminds me of something.
Another boot maker I know, has told me has used it as hand stitching wax before (by soaking it I presume).
I wonder if anyone else has?
