You can get an Alcohol Burner from Nasco Arts & Crafts 1.800.558.9595
www.enasco.com .Then take a soup can and cut down the side and bend it out at a 90 degree angle and you have your tool rest it works and your cost is $2.50 cents + S/H it is the same kind of lamp that is the burner in the German ones .at a fraction of the cost.
Enjoy

Larry,
Thanks, I called them and they gave me their branch number in New Market,Ontario, not too far from me, they have a very nice looking lamp with stand (might have to build an extension to rest irons))and i bought one with a dozen of spare wicks. Thanks again.
DW, Gerry from Seattle said they don't carry them.

Larry, I ordered the wrong lamp,i had to call them back to change to the metal alcohol burner, which has a fuel tank instead of wick and i think that's the one you were referring to.

Larry,
What a great tip with the soup can!
I'm going to have Chicken Noodle tonight, just so I can make the tool rest.
I hate what I've been doing to hold my irons.
Thank you,
Paul

Paul,
Do you think Larry was referring to Compbell's soup can or some other brand, meanwhile you enjoy your chicken noodle soup whatever the brand-name.

Nasser,
Let me know how that burner works out. I ended up making my own from cheap oil lamp parts and some other junk.

Here is the lamp i recently bought,it works very well.goodbye my old wick lamp, this one has a nice blue flame and hard to see,it took some time to find the right fuel, denatured alcohol, ethyl, ethanol and methyl are some of names used for the fuel,i had few managers at Canadian tire (big hardware store)searching until one of them said the restaurant section and there it was.

Hey!
That's just fondue fuel. I'm wondering if the lamp from a fondue burner would work to heat irons? hmmm. I'll have to look into this.
Nasser,
Thanks for the source for the fuel... you can buy ANYTHING at Canadian Tire

I've used a fondue burner for years with methylated spirits as the fuel for heating the irons. Works fine. I agree with Paul, that soup tin idea is brilliant! I've done a number of things to prop them up in the past (with varying success). Know what I'm going to do now though

What are you planning to use this for? Could you mean hide glue?---tan colored crystals that are soaked in water and then heated?

Georgene,
it's say i am planning to use it for the peaceful creation of a paste for the boot/shoe components, like the toe and heel stiffeners and side linings, "hide glue' well you might be close,it was called animal glue,it was the shoe/boot maker only glue/cement until recently, but i think it is the same, tan colored or white crystal gelatin is okay.let me know if you find some.

Nasser, et al,
It has always been my understanding (perhaps mistaken) that HirschKleber is made from the hooves of ten tiny reindeer. The hooves would be, if I understand correctly, comprised mostly of gelatin...??
Correct me if I am wrong....

DW,
I am not familiar with the Hirsckleber, but some people also believe horns and hooves are used/ boiled for the animal glue/gelatin,it has been refuted by some,so i don't know, but there is a lot more gelatin making stuff in the rest of the animal, bones, fat and skins.

Was that not the right stuff I posted?
I called Jello before and asked them if it was true they used hoofs and horns and they said yes. Maybe you could use plain jello, or empty gelitin capsules for pills.
