Well, here's them boots.


What a day yesterday was! After trying on four fitters for four customers, husband and wives, I finally delivered this pair of full cuts. He was very happy with the fit, which was a great relief, as always. But the best part was that he was smitten by the design. He really made a fuss. I almost blushed!

I've decided to call them, My Ode to My Muse.
I think I mentioned previously, over in the Art and Mysterie thread, that I was inspired to boot making by a beautiful pair of full cuts made by Dave Little of San Antonio Texas, as shown in the book Texas Boots, back in the early 90's.

Well, this is them, and I can die a happy man now.

Here is one of the latest made in my shop,this last has been working over time,as soon a pair is out,the next is ready to go,not an easy upper to make or to last,add leather to the last for bunions and hammer toes and you got yourself some lasting to do,but i am happy the way they turned out, his next one is a Derby shoe in cloth(wool).

Here is a brighter picture.

Still simple cement construction (I am just now beginning to work through the start of Tim S.'s book) but these boots do have my first attempt at a leather toe box; were also cut down from a larger pattern, to fit this foot & last. I'm still using leather already in my possession, which explains the funny colors. No point in buying high end leather yet. These are pre-stretched black buffalo, very thick, maybe 8 oz.

This is my last student's work. He is completed a cemented, a, English welted and a pair of goiser construction. As I couldn't convince him to join ot the forum - I post his work. Really good from a beginner!

I sent these out the other day but didn't get a photograph of them until the very last minute. The pics looked good in the camera but on screen they weren't what I wanted. I could see that I had photographed in too strong a light and that the shadows were overpowering the photo.

The boots in the photo are nothing really special relatively speaking--the lines are very good, the colours harmonize, and both the positive and negative spaces are pleasing to the eye--but they are nothing I haven't done and posted before. I post them primarily to show off my tentatively emerging "photoshopping" skills.

So...not a particularly good job of cropping out the original background but "good enough for government work."

The latest creation from my workshop - usual black French boxcalf, veg tanned lining and English welted.

So here is the first pair of shoes I have made they are a ladies court shoe that I made at RMIT in Melbourne doing a short course. They are a brocade silk with a woven gold colored metal running through. They are backed with some type of synthetic iron on backing (stupidly I forgot to ask exactly what the product was called.) and a pigskin lining and a premade leather sole. To be honest I find them rather ugly and almost hard to look at given all I can see is the mistakes I made on them. Despite that I'm just a little proud of myself.

Here's my latest shoe from my shop. Men's oxford made from Italian calf. I think that it turned out quite well. Most of all I enjoyed making it. Comments good or bad are welcome. Thanks

I just finished these. The customer is a size 12 or there-abouts. They are full python with an inch and a quarter heel.


I put a narrow pointed toe on these and it had a great deal of over hang. As a consequence I thought it might be the better part of wisdom to hand sew the outsoles on by hand. So here is a shot of the welt outseam at roughly 10-11 to the inch. I think I made the thread a little light...should have been at least one cord heavier, IMO.

Here is my latest pair

After watching Marcell's videos on YouTube last week, I decided to give it a go at making a pair of shoes:


If it appears that I make shoes like a bootmaker...don't be offended. I don't have the luxury of someone in the school at the moment who has made a pair of shoes before. The learning curve is more like a cliff.

These 50s era throwbacks already have the heels on, I'll be finishing and checking the fit tomorrow morning.


The three are already on lasts with the welt complete. I'll be pegging the soles and working the heels over the next few days.

I have another pair of women's dress boots that needs to be lasted.

We work in a self-paced environment...I've been told that I'm "slightly" ambitious...

I made these two pairs of boots last month. I've made both of these designs before but every one is a little different.

I finished these guys yesterday. As a first pair of shoes (I have been making boots for about 3 months), overall, I'm pleased. The learning curve cliff was steep---especially since I was going alone with no "adult supervision." I have lots to take with me for the next pair --- which I intend to do as soon as I wrap up the four pair of boots I'm working on...

My 17 years old nephew and his creation. He spend his holiday in my workshop and likes shoemaking.
