Just finished this boot,i am not going to say it is moccasin because you know who is going whack me on head with the stick,they are a birthday present,made the mistake of asking her what kind of boots she likes,the upper is sewn to insole using same leather for the rand welt which is sewn flesh side up and folded after the extra leather is trimmed 2mm below the thread,i don't know what color to dye the edges.

Well by popular request here's a couple of additional shots of the buckle shoe.

My bottom finish leaves a little to be desired in terms of finesse but I'm working on it. This shoe was sewn by machine around the forepart and by hand in the waist. Not a great fiddleback beveled waist but the beveled waist was not even ordered so...maybe when all is said and done, it's pretty good for government work.


This from the side/top to show the inside and the latchets. The 'roo lace is just to hold the latchets in place until the customer can mount the buckles.

Got a couple more pair of boots done this week. Both boots are work type boots. The reason for the post is that I made them after DW's idea on cutting extra patterns to turn the edges on. And may I say that it worked like a dream. Thanks DW.

The first is a 8" top work boot made of Black waxed calf tops and a very heavy bull hide from GN.

The second is a 10" top work boot with lug soles. The boots are an oiled water buffalo from GN.

The last picture is of a pair of shoes that I made for a customer that has a number of medical problems. I made these shoe with extra depth in the front and with a velco closure on the laces. The leather is casual water buffalo from GN.

I thought that I would share my latest leather hat with the group. I just finished my 3rd hat and this one finally fits my head. Not sure that I like the shape of the crown but I am getting closer to what I want without using felt. Its all vegtanned leather except the chrome tanned sweat band. The hat band is not fastened on yet because I am not certain how to do that. Next time I will use a buckle also. The hat band has an applique braid of three thongs using black kangaroo 1/8" lace shown on page 459 of Grants Encyclopedia of Rawhide and leather Braiding book, if anyone is interested. I love this braid and it is so easy that I plan to use it a lot more. The hat is just oiled lightly with neatsfoot oil. I want it to become an everyday well used hat. The brim and tip are 3 ounce vegtanned lined with 2-3 vegtanned calf skin. The crown is stiffer 6 ounce veg.

8 mm thick insole, 4,5 mm thick midsole, thick Vibram sole. Transparent finished sole edge, double spinned stich goyser - these was the specification of this shoe by the customer. He was happy with it, so me too.

My second pair of zipper boots. GH French calf. I think I actually prefer the GN cow calf. The French calf is a bit overly firm hand for this type of boot (not to mention expensive).

Red stitching was customer's idea.

Here's the newest shoe coming out of my shop. I think maybe I hit the jack pot with the new guy I hired to do repairs for me. This is the frist and right now we are working on making three other styles.

As I said in my last post that I would get some more pictures out on the new items we are doing in the shop. The pictures are of a sandal which we just finished. It's made from water buffallo. The insole was stitched to a mid sole, then a rubber out sole was used.

Maybe I posted this type of shoe before, but I do it again, with a close up picture with details. This is the way we (hungarian makers) traditionally decorate our shoes.

I finished my zipper boots. I was glad I spent so many sleepless nights patterning in my head. Once I started making the boot for real it went very fast because I had it mostly figured out. There are definitely things I'd do differently the next time (if there is one) but overall I was pleased with the boot.

A new Budapester from my workshop. The upper design a bit different and the photos are ugly.. sorry for that.

Here is a first pair made on the new blanks i got, The toe might need some tapering down,but i like them, the leather on the shoes is left-over kid and that's why i put holes for wider under-lay to give the upper some strength,gimping is down with my hand tool,useful to have one,until i find a machine for Dick's tool.

So I started by posting some shoes for regular folk, which is what I want to do more of, but like I said regular work is in theatrical footwear. Here's a couple of examples.

I wanted to share my hat again. I took the tip off because I got tired of people laughing at the shape. I changed it so that it no longer looked like a bicycle seat. Then I dyed it black. Then I made another hat. This one weighs 10 ounces as apposed to the black on that is over 1 pound. LOL
