I am not surprised at all by your little project. OMG! This is what you get when you mix an "I.T." guy with hand made Tango shoes. You are really heading for someplace big. Congratulations. What a wonderful creation.

Looks great. I note on your video you comment on trying to also get a lathe figured out.

I think what would be great, assuming the scanner isn't too expensive, is to get a group of folks who could buy/group fund a digital lathe and then all make use of it. (I recall someone was trying to sell a combo scanner/lathe here early this year.) Sort of like chip firms may use a chip foundry. I have to imagine the lathe would be more expensive, so increasing its utilization would be a good way to go.

Of course, the other great thing would be the ability and skill to modify the digital file to create new, custom lasts. One of these days I'm going to have to learn some CAD program, I guess.

I am just guessing, but either a small cnc lathe or a vertical cnc milling machine might do the trick.
There are a number of mini, desktop types of units out there that could work.
Probably find a number of them on ebay
