The following is a brief synopsis of the on-line brochure of The Honourable Cordwainers' Company. The brochure, and more detailed information, can be found at

The HCC is a guild of shoe and bootmakers and allied crafts. The purpose is to preserve the Trade, encourage the sharing of skills and
information among members and promote fellowship.
The guild is affiliated with the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers--a London based guild that traces its beginnings to the 14th century.
The Guild has members from all over the world--many of them recognized authorities on historical shoemaking techniques and footwear history. There is an annual guild meeting on the weekend closest to St. Crispin's Day October 25.) This last year's meeting was in Colonial Williamsburg (which funds an historically correct colonial era shoemaker's shop). It was a three day event beginning on the 23rd of October and running through the 25th.
The Guild maintains an extensive library of old and rare books, as well as newer works on shoemaking, and photocopies of selected chapters
are available to members for a nominal fee. In addition, tapes and transcriptions of recent papers, videos, and presentations made at the annual convention are also available.
The Guild publishes a quarterly newsletter--the Crispin Courier--that serves as a link between members and generally contains interesting
bits of news about the Guild or about the world of bespoke shoemaking, and often serves up shoemaking tips (known as "crans") sent in from various members, as well.
Dues are $20.00 annually, and those joining for the first time, who pay after July have their membership dues pro-rated for all of the next year. This figure (the $20.00 for dues) has not changed for at least ten years. Checks should be made out to "The Honourable Cordwainers' Company" and may be sent to the membership coordinator at:
