So I just got done reading the locations of the AGM with in the last few years, is there a reason it is always in the midwest????

I am a northwesterner, Is it possible to have the AGM in the northwest next year?

Just courious,

Marlietta,

In fact the AGM locations rotate most years--an east coast venue, a mid-west one, and a western one (OK one year). There has been discussion of shooting for a OR or CA venue to add to the rotation, and several nibbles for members willing to host and organize there. Stay tuned.

I just realized how bummed I was to be missing the HCC Gathering (Bill hates it when I call it that). But I really really am bummed.

Besides not getting to greet in person, the many new "brothers and sisters" into our closeness, I'm really going to miss DW's presentation on the Journey from BootMaker to ShoeMaker. (DW, please excuse me if I'm getting out ahead of you.)

But I remember the advise of our dear dentist friend Jake Dobbins, when I was asking him about DW's classes. Jake's been back at least once, so I knew he have something positive to share.

His advise was simple, "listen to every word he says". For me that's enough.
I'm sure his insights will pull many similar thougths out of each of you.
So I share that same encouraging thought with you.

I can only imagine the fascinating and stimulating insights that the discussion will arouse around a glass of the golden nectar, as you all share your own journey. I'm going to miss that. But then that's me, and I don't think I'm the only one.

I think alot of us have had deep thoughts about the whole subject of our own journey and the path along the way.
For many of us this is real 'hero's journey stuff'. Complete with threshold guardians and bellies of whales.
But then again, DW might just talk about shoes.

Well that's all I wanted to say. Have fun, and take pictures.

Love ya all,
Paul

Shoot me an e-mail if you're looking to split a room (fingers crossed).

Thanks,

Paul,

Sure hate not seeing you on this trip. I'll make sure some elbows are raised on your behalf! We'll miss you my good friend.

Any time Dee-Dubb is willing to talk.....I'm eager to listen. I know his presentation will not only be interesting, but inspiring to boot.

I'll be leaving bright and early in the morning. Looking forward to another great visit with some special friends.

Everyone be safe!

Hello Fellow Cordwainers,

I just want to say how much I enjoyed meeting everybody who came to this educational event. I felt like I already knew many of you. But in person everybody was really so much more than just shoemakers and bootmakers. This is really a nice group of people. I am glad to be a very small part of it. Thanks to all for making Adam and I feel welcomed.

I felt compelled to wear my moccasins to this event. That was really a humiliating experience in the presence of so many wonderful shoes. But I look at it this way. Maybe by next year I will get an award for the most improved shoemaker in attendance. I have nowhere but up to go.

And I will be seeking your help.

Thank you in advance.

Geri,

I'm glad you had a good experience. I remember feeling just as validated by the generosity of spirit of all those I met the first time I attended the AGM.

And the Wallers really set the culture for such a great reunion, don't they?

I look forward to hearing more experiences and observations.

Happy St.Crispin's Day to one and All.

Paul

I had a great and educational time at our AGM, as usual. Thank you all for making the 25th especially good. We had excellent presentations: Sixty-four to the inch, for real!; Shoes by bootmakers; making orthotics, teaching leatherwork to children's groups; curved needle stitcher theory and operation--something for almost everyone.
I learned several new tricks and sources, which I'm grateful for, and admired some first-class work: beautiful shoes and boots, handmade lasts, Alligator and crocodile leather that has made me reconsider my objections--it's remarkable and beautiful leather.
Attendance was high, and new members of varied backgrounds were warmly welcomed. Many members wore footwear of their own making, the most basic of which is so much better than that commercial stuff. All are encouraged to do so--no one has ever been laughed at. Be proud of your work, or share your experience with us.
As usual, there was feasting and drinking, though the old adage
On the twenty-fifth of October
Seldom a souter's sober
would surely be an exaggeration.

A huge thanks to Cindy Waller for the organization and personality of the meeting, and to Larry for spark-plugging it--and filling the gas tank, etc. Also Bruce and Penny Graham, and others too numerous to mention.

Happy St. Crispin's Day to all.

I'm not home yet...only got as far as Moorhead and looking at a severe storm that will probably keep us holed up til Thursday morning at least.

I have to echo the sentiments expressed so far--I thought this year's AGM was really good. The atmosphere was just so welcoming and congenial...probably because of the company but surely made all that more so by the hospitality and organization of Larry and Cindy Waller. I didn't get many photos so I hope those of you who were shooting away...plus the professional work of Larry's particular friend...will start posting them. If you need help posting, email me.

Thanks to all of you who came and thanks again to Larry and Cindy

As per the request of membership during the business meeting, I have looked into setting up a separate area for Guild busniness discussions. I can set it up so that it will require a new registration for that particular area and admittance will be by application and assurance that the registrant is a member of the HCC.

At one time, new members were assigned a membership number that seemed never to expire. I don't know if Guild membership is still handled in that way but if numbers are assigned to new members by the accounting firm, then supplying a guild membership number would be the easiest and most reasonable surety of membership.

I will try to implement that area upon my return to homebase.

I am considering just calling it "Members Only" and adding a description of the purposes and I would entertain them (PM only if you please).
