People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and
diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or
in some contrivance to raise prices.

Ladies and Gentlemen, friends and fellow hidesmiths;
Due to responsibilities at home, we will be unable to attend the AGM again this year. We are sorry, and will miss it and you all.
Thanks to Larry and Cindy for your kindness, hospitality and friendship.
Will it be possible to follow the weekend on the computer? I'd be interested in following it, if I can.
God bless,

Bruce & Penny

I didn't know you had changed the meeting to August instead of October. Maybe that was the meeting we had when I was down this summer or maybe I missed something.

Sorry I won’t be meeting you face-to-face at Delavan in October (or was that August?? *!#~%& etc.)

I was hoping you would be there to correct me during my session on practical pattern cutting. No doubt Larry, Al and the rest of the gang will put me right.

All

As somebody who attended the AGM get-together last year, I am very sad to say I cannot make it this year. I do hope to be there in 2004.

It is such a special event and certainly one not to be missed.

Have fun guys and gals!!

How about a little diversion in the way of a report from the AGM. Anybody who attended want to share anything from any of the talks?

Just a quick message to let all know, the 18th Annual General Meeting in Old Sturbridge Village took place last weekend, St, Crispin's Day. It was a great success; attendance and participation were greater than expected. About 20 attended; 7 came 1000 miles or more. Feasting and Drinking occured, as usual. Several seminars and demonstrations, as well as endless discussion, covered footwear, history, lasts, patterning, new techniques--some truly new viewpoints.
Host and VP Peter Oakley ensured all went smoothly. Old and new faces were seen. The new members were especially welcome, as the Guild grows.
I have no photos (and couldn't post them if I did), nor a full report, but more will follow.

Thanks to Peter Oakley and to all who attended the HCC annual convention - I have so many new ideas, & addresses and telephone numbers of companies and individuals who might have what I need, that it's a full-time job communicating with them this week. I am looking for a perforating machine, if anyone has any additional leads. For those interested in contact information re: the portable hand-powered Chinese patcher, contact Ron Glassert, 47 Eastman Road, Eastsound, WA. 98245. (360-376-2600). It was a pleasure being in the presence of all in attendance.

Larry Waller took many digital photos, including the group shot, so maybe we can get him to post those. Larry, you on-line?

I agree, it was a great meet. No Polar Bear Swim meet however, but there was tool-swapping, etc., well fueled by "Mrs. Slivovice" [thanks Ken]. We even gave Carl Lichte a cell call, and begged for him to bring more "Panther's Water" next year.

My husband Walter passed away today
following lengthly illnesses. To be exact he suffered from three strokes
recently not to mention one four years ago. He was the love of my life and
my rock of security. Together we had two beaufiful daughters and a son who preceeds him in death. We have lived a wondeful fulfilling life, we have traveled some and we have known some very interesting people and we have had
great experiences. Walter spent 37 years working for Employers Casualty Insurance. He loved his job and he had
many friends in Houston, Dallas, San
Antonio and other places in Texas where his employment took him. He will be missed immensely and without him to convey his strength to me I hope I can
continue to be strong also. RL

Rosemary,
My sincerest condolences to you as well. Though we have never met and only exchanged a couple of emails regarding your bootmakers bench, I feel a connection to you.
I thoroughly enjoyed the rememberances you shared with us a few months ago. I can only imagine the loss you feel. My wife and I have been married 33 yrs. and I know I would suffer greatly at her loss.
So take some time to grieve and then start a pair of boots when things settle down. It's a great escape and you know you have a community here to support you.

I haven't seen any pics yet, so here are some we got (I'll be kind and try to skip most of the architectural pictures - lovely landscape up there in Yankeeland). And I'm sorry I didn't get any of Jake's or Peter's presentations

Good pix Marc. Larry, anybody? Goin' to post more?

It was a fantastic meeting, and those who missed it really missed out.

Miriam and Larry tried to post some live updates Saturday, but the computer hiccupped and lost the messages. Hoping somebody will post more on here.

I've posted the pics that Nancy took on my website, johnbailey.net.

I also sent them to Larry. He plans to post them I think.
