Nasser,

Great article! Congratulations!

Robert Duvall? He's one of my favorite actors. How is he in person?

Once again, good for you on the article.

Greetings Jake,

Alright, inseaming done and hands are free to write,Now that i know you "like the smell of napalm in the morning"Image I will tell you the story,Since you asked,"how is he in person"? in short funny but not haha, He was in Toronto few years ago for a movie shoot and involved tango shoes for Mr Duvall,to make the story short,He came to the shop for measurements and a pair of old fine shoes with him, made many years ago in Pasadena with invisible thread upper closing but light, and cement work to copy from, delivery time was short, less than two weeks,I got on it right away and made a fitter and had him try and all went well with that,I proceeded with the real shoes and finished them and someone came to pick them up and deliver them,me knowing they will fit well after fitter, I received a call from Mr Duvall two days after delivery,Telling me how my shoes are falling apart and the soles also separating and me listening to these,i tried hard to make him a good pair and hearing what he was telling me made me very small, wishing the earth opens up and swallow me,I had nothing to say fast enough to remedy the situation, silence, seconds felt very long, Than out of nowhere,he tells me he is kidding, the shoes are fine, can i make him another pair in brown leather? so when you asked how is he in person,i let you be the judge.

I'm still not feeling charitable. He could send you many customers without you needing to move!

And considering he lives about 1 1/2 hours west of me in Charlottesville, Virginia, I'll be fairly warned Image

Well, Right again,That's why i am where i am to this day and doing more film work year after year,It is easier for an actor to move from place to place than for the shoe/boot maker.

Nasser,
Congratulation! It's enlightening to read something like this.
Were those tango shoes in the movie "Assassination Tango" from you?

Joseph,

I am no movie buff and didn't see that film,i just make stuff for them, but the name rings a bell,if you are a movie watcher, check the boots i made for sir Ian (magneto) in the first Xman movie,They were all my made, they don't give us shoe/boot maker credits, sigh.

Nasser,
Arts/Crafts field is always a never-ending story of struggles. I heard he had struggled with budget, script. The movie came out like half of everything and kinda odd combination.
Credit will come someday. Hope it's sooner than later.
You have very good style/taste with shoes. Keep at it, I enjoy it very much.

Nasser, Nice article, and good to see a photo too. Has your phone been ringing?

I guess somewhere in my mind I knew you were Iranian, but had forgot. Hopefully someday we can get together over some Persian food, which has to be one of the most delicious cuisines. Or maybe you can help me with my tah dig, which I struggle with.

Glad to see you (and the craft) get some exposure.

Jon, thank you, I was very delighted to see you in your shop in that interview, every little exposure that brings our trade to people attention is good.

You are making my mouth water, talking about Iranian food in mid day after some sole stitching,Maybe one summer i will come to NS and visit you and Fred and show you how to make rice with tah dig(crunchy crust)Image.

Keystone Leather was out of stock for a while but they have the Belgian pit-tanned sole bends again. If you ask they'll cut heel lifts out of the Belgian leather instead of the Argentine. It costs a little bit more but it's so worth it. The Belgian leather makes wonderful, dense heel lifts. I just ordered this morning; now that I've gotten mine the rest of you are free to order. Thanks!

Always nervous doing interviews, but somebody's got to get the straight info out there.

Yes, we're a bit tough on poor old 18thc cobblers--most tourists confuse the two terms--but hey, that's just part and parcel of teaching history, etc. :&#62Image

Enjoyed the interview Al.

BTW: I never liked the term "cobbler" even before I started making boots. (unless it involves cherries or peaches).
"Cherry cordwainer" doesn't sound very appetizing.
