Hello

Has anyone seen anything like this?
What is its origin?
When was it made?
How exactly was it used?
I could not find any information from patent number nailed to it...

so I turn to you for any information

Any information?

I know what it does...but I don't know what it is used for.

What it does is take a profile of the foot, any foot, probably including the "stick"...I suspect that much is obvious...how that would be used is another question.

Quite ingenious really. Not sure how such info would be useful by itself.

Sure is a nice one--whatever it is. Never seen anything like that. All US Patents can be searched here: http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/PTO/search-adv.htm

If Al doesn't know what it is...I don't know anyone else who would.

I wonder what that full length "slot" down the middle is for? Could it be that a piece of cardboard is slipped into the slot and the profile of the foot drawn along the inner edge of the metal frame?

It's a conundrum.

Size stick!! Been looking for an old one in good shape and I think I finally found it. Got it off eBay and it is in better condition and nicer than I imagined.

That's a beauty alright. I got several off Ebay. All boxwood and one with ivory inlay.
