The Crispin Colloquy

Hi all! I made my first attempt at footwear when I was 12 and my interest has been going strong for 15 years. The thing is that my great great grandmother came from Sweden (I'm an American gal currently living in Sweden) and we didn't really know very much about her family. Then a couple of year sago my mom caught the genealogy bug and what do you know my great great grandmothers father (mid 19th century) was a shoemaker and cam from a long line of shoemakers that stretches back until at least the 18th century! Talk about inheriting a skill :-)

I think it is the right topic to post in.. I have just visited Jan Erik Melkersson in his beautiful workshop in Sweden, teaching each others to new technics and trick, keeping a common workshop to Swedish makers (and an American too) about goiser stitch. Janne is a very skillful shoemaker master (I saw real masterpieces in his shop), and a very nice person (and most probably the last one, who is specialised to bespoke orders in Sweden). If you would like, I can post some photos about our workshop.

I have been warned by an admin, that I shouldn't post any advertisement concerning my course in Sweden. I absolutely agree with this watchful approach. I would never advertise a seminar, which is actually over almost for a week.

This warn was a bit exaggerate, wasn't it?

So the pictures from the course (which has passed already - and no new is planned, so please do not try join, even if you have a time machine, and we don't sell or make lasts, tools, and leathers - do not ask about it). Just kidding.

So, we kept a workshop with Janne Melkersson, my great swedish friend, talking about traditional Hungarian shoemaking technics, compared them with the English and German traditions, showing new tricks and methods to each other. We could also help each other to find those rare things, we all are eager for: lasts, tools, accessories.

I was surprised to see your earlier post, referring to a private email you received. Since you had asked if there was any interest in seeing pictures and if it was allowed to post them, our forum administrator let you know that you can post pictures as long as it does not amount to advertising.
Any response to such an email should have been in private email, not on the forum. You say that you agree with our careful approach, as such the moderators expect you to use your best judgment on what to post on the Colloquy. If you are unsure you can always ask any of the moderators in private email before posting.

Thanks for clarifying that you are not selling courses or items for personal gain. Looks like there was a nice turnout in Sweden. Do yo have any goiser stitch close-up pictures from the shoe you are working on?
