"water-stains"

Hello, I sometimes have the problem of getting water stains from the counter together with the hirschkleber getting squeezed together when lasting the backside. When is the right time to put the counter in so I dont get this problem? In other words how dry does the counter have to be when inserting ...

Re: Shoe machines

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a replacement head for a sewing machine that simply punches holes through something like thin veg tanned bellies? I've seen this done on youtube videos, especially special punches for 'pinking' leather. So does anyone know where I could get something ...

Tools to Make

Does anyone know where I can purchase some device (maybe something similar to a shoe horn) for slipping the last back onto the shoe once already removed?

I am looking to get the most brilliant or highest shine with such a product and also something that won't chip or scratch off easily. I have heard of such products like 'Brytaline', 'Quick-Stain", ...

Re: Lasts

I was wondering if anyone knew of individuals making their own custom lasts (from wood) in the US or Canada? Im interested in learning or taking courses on hand-making your own lasts and am curious to see if anyone in North America actually does that..?

Re: Lasting

So.. the leather I was using was a calf, probably too stiff for the purposes of making a chukka, but I think if I had dipped it in water for a little bit and then took the last off I 'may have' been able to prevent the tear... I think the real reason why it tore is because the thread I was using for...

Re: Lasting

I don't know if this is the right section of the site to post on but here we go. Recently I tried making a pair of chukkas with a regular shoe last (maybe where I went wrong) and as I tried to pull it out the seam in the back tore open. I don't know if it's because the leather was too hard, whether ...
