DW,

Thanks for taking the time to add the Texas FSA photo essay to the HCC webpage. I, for one, thoroughly enjoy it.

Tex,

Everyone hasn't been around the boot business for a hundred years, like you have, I've never heard of "Uline", but I expect I can find 'em. Thanks for the info!

All,

Well, I need a little help...again. I need a place to buy boxes for my completed boots. I bought several a few years ago from a man in Amarillo, but they are gone. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Curved needle

Tom,

I have a Landis Model F curved needle stitcher and I wouldn't take two new ones for it. It stitches like a dream. Keep it oiled, make sure all the "little" things are in proper working order and it should serve you well.

<t>All, <br/> <br/> I hope this is the correct place for this...I'd like some input on turning boots. <t>All, <br/> <br/> Does anyone know where to get press cement? I know Barge quit making it. Is there a cross-over from another vocation that will work, that anyone might know about? Re: miscellaneous tips, advice, and cautions

Gary,

On the small wheels I use 60, 40 and 100 grit. On the 4" wheels I use 60 and 100 grit. You didn't ask, but on the naumkeg I use 120 grit. I don't have any specific reason for this combination, but it works well for me.

Re: Looking for...

Lisa,

I keep a box under my work table to toss used soles, thread, scraps of everything you can think of, (you all know the type of scraps we can come up with), so I'll start saving those soles for ya.

I do a LOT of repairs, so you can count on me for some old soles. Do you want the half-soles as well?

Re: vamp leather question

Gary,

If the leather tears that easy, it may be a split, or possibly goat...or dry rot. The only use I can think of for it might be to line, or back, a wallet, book cover, etc., something fairly flat.
