Re: The Gallery

D.W., you should try the PAC hinge, it's the same as the SAS only you don't have to trip te switch, you just pull it forward.

Re: Tools and equipment for sale

Does anyone have a lap skiver they would trade for a pair or 2 crimping screws?
They are made from D.W.s plans by a custom motorcycle builder, never used.

Let me know!

Re: Outsoles

Hi, my soles keep curling up, especially the one with the rocker sole for LLD. they have eva soles. I just started putting shoe trees in them and it has helped, but not enough. its been 4-5 days I think. Do you think it will continue to flatten out or what about heating the soles or something? Its p...

Re: Seeking knowledge or survey

I use 16 round point needles and 69 nylon thread on every pair I've made, not that many.
Works fine for me.

Re: The Gallery

Larry,
Thanks!!!!! Any idea what I should use for the metal thimble?

I also posted some boots I made above the broken lasts, that's why this ended up in the gallery.
Maybe the hdpe thing should be moved to the last section?

Thanks again for your help!

Re: The Gallery

D.W., I did not use the beader to break the last, I have a lap jack. I just happened to be unlucky and break the beader after the last. I'm probably going to get new lasts but it seems like I should be able to repair these somehow. I have that cool hinge like yours but have an option to get that scr...

Here are my most legit shoe/boots yet I think. The leather is GH fc, and the suede is the backside which was really grey so I dyed it with suede dye that made it kind of purple, so I used regular black dye and it worked fine!

Re: Lasts

I had custom lasts made by spring line when I first started getting serious about making shoes. I don't know if I sent bad measurements and drawings ( which is possible) but they were completely unwearable and needed tons of modification to be usable. Plus, something happened with the bank transfer ...

Re: Great Leather!

Well, I was finally going to order some of the C.F. Stead Janus calf from Bokay today, I had called previously and was quoted a price per sq. foot and aprox cost of hide. I was told today that I would have to order 1000 sq. ft min. And it would be imported from England. Oh we'll, so much for that! A...

Re: Pattern making

I always use autobody fineline tape for getting the straight line down the last, its 1/8" and made of plastic so you can stretch it from the thimble to the toe and then just push it down.
then you can just cut down the middle of the tape.
